BREAKING THE ICE BY BUILDING MENTAL FITNESS IN YOUNG PLAYERS

Movember is pleased to announce the implementation of "Breaking The Ice" (BTI), an ice hockey-themed adaptation of our men's health program, Movember Ahead of the Game, in Canada and the U.S.. It is a mental health literacy and resilience program for young athletes, their parents, coaches, and officials. It uses the organized sport environment to teach skills to spot signs of mental ill-health, build resilience, and encourage help-seeking.

Implementation Pilot with the Western Hockey League

We are currently conducting an implementation pilot for BTI in partnership with the Western Hockey League (WHL).
  • The program will be delivered across the entire WHL league structure.
  • The pilot runs from August 2025 through April 2026, with all 23 WHL teams and their associated stakeholders participating.
  • We are on track to deliver the program to an estimated 1,100+ individual participants.
  • In September 2025, we successfully completed the comprehensive BTI facilitator training for 17 WHL champions, who have begun delivering the program to all WHL teams.
